When replacing missing teeth, patients often ask about the difference between conventional dental implants and basal dental implants. Both are effective tooth replacement options, but the right choice depends on your bone quality, oral health, and treatment goals.

Conventional dental implants are placed into the jawbone and usually require sufficient bone volume for successful placement. If the bone has shrunk due to long-term tooth loss, additional procedures such as bone grafting or sinus lift surgery may be recommended. Healing typically takes 3–6 months before the final crown is placed, providing excellent long-term stability and function.

Basal dental implants are designed for patients with significant bone loss. They engage the strong basal bone, which is less prone to resorption, often eliminating the need for bone grafting. In many suitable cases, fixed teeth can be placed within a few days, making them a faster solution for selected patients.

Neither implant type is universally better. Conventional implants remain the gold standard for many patients with adequate bone, while basal implants can be an excellent alternative for carefully selected cases with severe bone loss. A comprehensive clinical examination and CBCT scan help determine the most appropriate treatment plan.

At Hyderabad Dental Hospital & Implant Centre, our experienced implant specialists evaluate every patient individually
